Born and raised locally, Coach Jon is dedicated to building confidence and resilience in Newark's youth. He teaches every kids class personally, ensuring your child learns proven techniques from a trusted, expert instructor in a safe and supportive environment.

KIDS JIU JITSU IN NEWARK & HEATH, AGES 5-13
Give your kids the tools to handle themselves under pressure. This program is not about breaking boards or chasing participation trophies. We focus on real skill, real confidence, and results they carry off the mat. Three age-specific groups: Little Ninjas (age 5, waitlist only), Kids (6–8), and Youth (9–13). Coach Jon personally teaches every kids class. Parents are always welcome to watch.

LITTLE NINJAS (AGE 5)
Coordination, listening skills, and basic movements. We build a foundation of focus while keeping them fully engaged on the mats.
KIDS (6-8)
Fundamental no-gi grappling in a safe, structured environment. Kids build real confidence through skill — learning to move, control, and compete at their own pace.
YOUTH (9-13)
Advanced drilling, live rolling, and competition-focused training. They build real fitness, sharpen their grappling game, and develop the mental toughness that carries into every area of life.

MEET COACH JON
20+ years on the mats. A bronze medal at the IBJJF No-Gi Worlds as a brown belt. Promoted to black belt by Eddie Bravo himself on May 14, 2022. Coach Jon Borrows is the only Eddie Bravo black belt in Central Ohio.
He opened 10th Planet Newark in Heath, Ohio in 2015 so local adults and kids could train real no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu without driving to Columbus. He teaches every kids class personally and he is on the mats with the adults every week coaching, rolling, and keeping the room sharp.
Jon was raised in Newark and graduated from Newark High School. The kids he coaches today are growing up in the same town he did, and he cares about every person who walks through the door. Book a free class and meet him on the mats.
ANSWERS FOR PARENTS
Does my child need experience to start?
No. Most of our students walk in as complete beginners. We start them with the basics, match them with good partners, and prioritize safety while they learn.
What should my child wear to class?
A fitted t-shirt or rash guard and athletic shorts without pockets or zippers. We train no-gi, so you don't need to buy a traditional uniform (gi).
How often should my child train?
Two to three times a week is a great start. Consistency builds confidence, sharpens muscle memory, and keeps progress moving without burning out.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?
Yes. Safety is our number one rule. Kids learn how to fall properly, how to tap out, and how to protect themselves long before they do any live rounds.
What age groups do you teach?
We run specific classes for ages 5–13 in three groups: Little Ninjas (age 5), Kids (6–8), and Youth (9–13). This ensures they train with kids their own size and maturity level.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes. Your child's first class is completely free. There is no drop-in fee, no long forms, and zero commitment to try it out.
