REAL BOXING, NOT CARDIO KICKBOXING

FORGET THE PUNCHING
BAG WORKOUT

Most "boxing" classes are just aerobics with gloves on. You hit a bag to a playlist, sweat a little, and go home with terrible habits. That is not what we do here.

Saturday mornings are about the sweet science. We teach real boxing technique: proper stance, sharp footwork, head movement, crisp combinations, and defense. Coach Artie teaches the exact same fundamentals you will find in a professional boxing gym.

If you are a beginner, you will learn to throw a clean jab and move your feet before you ever touch a heavy bag. If you are a grappler, you will level up your stand-up. No fitness gimmicks, no dance routines. Just real, fight-ready conditioning built through focused, technical work.

YOUR COACH

COACH ARTIE DOUGLAS

Coach Artie grew up in the gym. With a lifetime of experience around real boxing, including amateur bouts and endless rounds of sparring, he knows exactly what it takes to build a solid foundation.

His philosophy is simple: fundamentals over flash. He focuses on safety, clean mechanics, and controlled sparring. The goal is to build sharp hands and real conditioning, leaving the ego and meathead culture at the door.

If you're a beginner, Artie’s approach is patient and methodical. You start with the stance and the jab. No one gets thrown to the wolves, and no one feels lost on day one.

THE LINEAGE

A Douglas in the Corner Every Saturday

Coach Artie Douglas is the son of former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, James "Buster" Douglas. That name carries weight in boxing, but in this gym, it’s not about riding coattails. It’s about preserving a standard.

That lineage means something specific on the mats. It means a deep, uncompromising respect for the fundamentals of the sport. It means understanding what real boxing culture looks like: the discipline, the repetition, and the absolute intolerance for shortcuts.

There is no fluff in how Artie teaches. You get the proven basics and ring-tested habits passed down from a family that reached the absolute pinnacle of the sport. You learn to throw hands the right way.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS

COMMON QUESTIONS FROM
NEW BOXERS

It’s normal to have questions before stepping onto the mat. We run a tight, technical, and respectful room. Here is exactly what you need to know before you show up.

I’ve never boxed before. Will I be lost?

No. Coach Artie starts every new student with stance and the jab. You won’t be expected to know anything on day one.

Will I get punched in the face?

Not on your first class. Sparring is optional and only happens after you’ve built up technique and defense. When you do spar, it’s light, controlled, and at a pace where you can actually learn.

I’m in my 40s or 50s. Is this for me?

Absolutely. Boxing technique scales to your physical attributes. Several of our regulars are in their 40s and 50s.

Do I have to be a BJJ member?

No. You can drop in for any Saturday class for $20. Many of our boxing regulars never train jiu-jitsu.

Do you loan gloves?

No. You’ll need to bring your own 14 oz boxing gloves.

Do I need to be in shape first?

No. You get in shape by training. The first three weeks are the hardest — your body adapts fast.

How is this different from kickboxing or cardio boxing?

Cardio boxing is a fitness class with no real instruction. This is actual boxing technique with a real coach. We teach the same fundamentals you’d learn at a dedicated boxing gym, drawing directly from the Buster Douglas lineage.

What if I want to compete?

Coach Artie can prep students for amateur boxing competition. Talk to him about your goals.

Why only Saturday?

Coach Artie runs a full schedule outside of teaching. Saturday morning is when he can give the class his full attention. Most members find one focused boxing session per week is plenty when combined with their BJJ training.
