Grappling Industries Recap: 10th Planet Newark Goes 10-4
THE MAT REPORT · ISSUE 1 · SEPTEMBER 2026
From Coach Jon
Team, welcome to the first issue of our newsletter. I'll use this space to celebrate our people and talk about where we're headed. There's plenty of both this time.
Trophies come from what you do on the boring Tuesdays when no one is watching. This cycle we're deep in the kimura. Learn it well and it'll pay you back for the rest of your jiu jitsu life.
Competition corner
Five adults represented our team at Grappling Industries: Brayden, Jordan, Jake, Carter, and Scott. Together they went 10-4, stacking three golds and two silvers to take the second place team trophy out of every academy in the building.
Brayden, fresh off his blue belt promotion, dominated his blue belt debut, finishing every single match in under a minute. That's how you announce yourself at a new rank. Scott took gold in his division, surviving a razor close finals match to come out victorious.

The kids showed up too. Will took second place and Ryder took third in their divisions, then posted up mat-side in their Newark rashguards to scout the older divisions. The next generation is officially on the board.

The next one is December 5th, and the preparation starts now. If you want to be a competitor, show up and train like a competitor.
Technique focus: kimuras
Kimuras. This cycle we're building the kimura grip into everything. The control, the traps, and the finish from top and bottom. Watch the breakdown before your next class and the details will click a lot faster when we drill it live.
